Duprees Kick Off Mayor's Summer Concerts in Woodbridge July 12

June 9, 2004

8-Show Series Features Classic '50s-'60s Pop Groups in Outdoor Setting

The glory days of rock 'n' roll are back again in Woodbridge as the Mayor's Summer Concert Series kicks off July 12 with an appearance by popular 1960s' hitmakers The Duprees.

The free concerts occur Monday nights from July 12-August 30 on the grass fields behind Woodbridge High School. Sansone's Route 1 Auto Mall is the prime series sponsor, with secondary sponsorship by ShopRite.

"Our summer concert series is one of the most popular events in the township," said Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. "Thousands turn out for the shows, which feature some of the biggest musical names from 1950s-1960s classic rock."

The Mayor's Summer Concert Series not only nourishes musical appetites but helps sustain the coffers at the Woodbridge Food Bank. Concertgoers are asked to bring non-perishable food items for deposit in special collection bins. "Summer months always put a strain on local food pantries," said the Mayor. "Last year, the generous people of Woodbridge donated an incredible amount of food during the series."

Festivities begin with a disc jockey at 6 p.m. with a 7 p.m. start for the concerts. Audience members are urged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Refreshments are available in the food court, with a percentage of those proceeds benefiting Project Graduation.

The 2004 Mayor's Summer Concert Series schedule:

July 12 - Duprees
July 19 - Brooklyn Reunion Show featuring Classics, Passions & Mystics
July 26 - Happenings
August 2 - Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge
