WHEN: Thursday – Sept. 30 – 1:30-2:30 p.m.
WHERE: Avenel Street School – 230 Avenel St. – Avenel
Community of Caring is a national K-12 character education program founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1982. Built around several core moral values that encourage young people to be responsible and caring members of a community, Community of Caring is used by more than 1,000 schools in the U.S. and Canada. In addition to Citizenship, values include Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Kindness and Caring.
“This is a well-conceived program that helps reinforce students in their ethical development and evolution toward maturity,” says Woodbridge Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. “We are very pleased to see a program of this kind in our school district.”
Avenel Street School has used the Community for Caring program for three years, says Principal Jill Osborne. “It’s a program that keeps the students thinking about positive behavior throughout the year, keeps these core values circulating in the everyday life of the school while allowing parents and staff to be involved as well.”
In addition to the guest speaker presentations, students will perform original poems, songs and drama skits embracing the Community of Caring theme.
For information about the assembly schedule, call Avenel Street School Principal Jill Osborne at (732) 602-8504. For information about Community of Caring, see www.communityofcaring.org.
