Woodbridge Welcomes “Month of the Young Child”

April 14, 2005

WHAT: Woodbridge Welcomes “Month of the Young Child”

WHEN: Monday, April 18, 9:30 – 10:00 a.m.

WHERE: Woodbridge Child Care Center, 238 Avenel Street, Avenel

Mayor Frank G. Pelzman will commemorate April as The Month of the Young Child at Woodbridge Child Care Center, 238 Avenel Street, Monday, April 18, at 9:30 a.m.

¶ Mayor Pelzman will read to students (ages 3-6) from the book Frogs Sing Songs by Yvonne Winer.

¶ “Children are our most treasured resource,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Providing for their health, safety, education and future opportunities is one of our highest priorities and responsibilities.”

¶ The Month of the Young Child is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association with 100,000+ members and 450 local, state and regional affiliates.

¶ Month of the Young Child focuses attention on early childhood issues and highlights the needs of young children by celebrating community partnership, promoting healthy children and families, recognizing early childhood professionals and advocating on behalf of children and families.

If it ideally takes a Village to raise a Child, the challenge in this area of New Jersey has been met through the partnership between a Township and a local YMCA.

¶ The Metuchen-Edison-Woodbridge YMCA operates 14 child care programs in the area and is the largest child care provider in Middlesex County with a weekly enrollment of approximately 850 students.

¶ Each center has a unique learning program combining activities and academics designed to ensure students experience the type of environment that promotes early learning.
