PLAN FOR COLONIA TRAFFIC SIGNAL MOVES AHEAD

February 20, 2004

Woodbridge Township has submitted a traffic signal modification plan for review and approval by the New Jersey Department of Transportation for a busy intersection in Colonia, Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced. The plan created by T&M Associates is to install a left turn arrow at the intersection of New Dover Road/Dover Road and Chain O'Hills Road. The arrow would be for the motorists coming off both New Dover Road and Dover Road onto Chain O'Hills. "We are committed to moving traffic along smoothly throughout the Township," said the Mayor. "Traffic signal improvements are part of our overall initiative to enhance infrastructure safety and efficiency." Primarily, the left turn arrow would cut the waiting time for east-bound motorists who want to make the left onto Chain O'Hills Road leading to Route 35. A 2003 survey initiated among residents by the Township indicated an overwhelming desire for an improved signal which would provide for an advanced left green. "Traffic flow at this major intersection will significantly improve with the new signal," said Councilman Kevin Wertz.
