Mayor Cites Importance of Regular Screenings by Adults Over 50
Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced that Woodbridge Township, along with the Regional Cancer Center at JFK Medical Center and Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center-Solaris Health System, will conduct free colorectal cancer screenings through the month of March, 2006.
Residents can obtain a free Home Screening Kit at participating venues. The test is taken at home and test samples are sent to the Regional Cancer Center for analysis.
Home screening kits are available at: Ar-Ex Pharmacy, 370 New Brunswick Ave., Fords; Avenel Pharmacy, 994 Rahway Ave., Avenel; Colonia Natural Pharmacy, 515 Inman Ave., Colonia; CVS, 107-113 Main St., Woodbridge; Iselin Pharmacy, 1186 Green St., Iselin; The Medicine Shoppe, 458 Amboy Ave., Woodbridge; Walgreen, 17 Green St., Woodbridge; Walgreen, 539 Inman Ave., Colonia; Woodbridge Township Health Center, 2 George Frederick Plaza, Woodbridge.
“Colorectal cancer is the most deadly canceramong non-smoking men and women in the United States,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Nearly 150,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. Yet, with proper screening, it is also the most preventable cancer.”
Experts recommend that adults 50 and oldershould be regularly screened for colorectal cancer. For more information about the screening program call (732) 855-0600 ext. 5024.
