Annual Walk Raises Awareness, Research Funds to Fight Leading Killer of Women
Mayor Frank G. Pelzman will lead the American Cancer Society’s annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk” in Woodbridge at 9 a.m. Sunday, October 16.
The five-mile walk begins and ends at Woodbridge Center in the Fortunoff parking lot with r egistration at 8 a.m. Mayor Pelzman and Woodbridge Township will sponsor a team of walkers.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 216,000 new cases of female breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2005 and more than 40,000 will die of the disease; and some 1,700 new cases of male breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2005 and kill more than 500.
“This is a very important public health issue that affects the entire community,” says Mayor Pelzman. “We can make a significant contribution to raising awareness and research funds to fight the disease by supporting events like Making Strides.”
Last year, 400,000 people nationwide took part in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walks and collected more than 32 million dollars.
