Barron Arts Center Holds Poetry Extravaganza Aug. 3

Woodbridge welcomes a profusion of poets to the 1 st AnnualPoetry Extravaganza,August 3, 8 p.m. at the Barron Arts Center, 582 Rahway Avenue, Woodbridge.

Featured poets include Renee Ashley, Laura Boss, Emanuel di Pasquale and Alicia Ostriker, with a special musico-poetic performance by pianist/poet/vocalist Joe Weil.

The Poetry Extravaganza is the concluding event in “Jersey Jams: A Fresh Harvest from Garden State Musicians and Poets”, the performance series funded by a County of Middlesex Cultural and Heritage Commission grant.

Barron Arts CenterExecutive Director Cynthia Knight says the series ably fulfilled its mission to acquaint Woodbridge audiences with some of the artistic gems in their own backyard. “People have been astonished by the outstanding talent in this area,” she says.

Since 1978 the Barron has hosted the monthly PoetsWednesday readings, a nationally-recognized series that draws poets and poetry lovers from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. “New Jersey has long been a source of literary innovation,” says Ms. Knight. “The Poetry Extravaganza will be an exciting showcase for our emerging local artists.”

The event is sponsored by the Woodbridge Township Cultural Arts Commission chaired by Dr. Dolores Capraro Gioffre with support from the Woodbridge Township Arts Council and Woodbridge Township Government.
