Woodbridge to Enforce Rules Against ATVs

May 18, 2004

Mayor Responds to Resident Complaints about Illegal Bikes

Woodbridge Mayor Frank G. Pelzman is putting drivers of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on official notice: illegal use of ATVs in Woodbridge Township will result in confiscation and a court summons.

"Improper use of ATVs pose a danger to the driver and others," says Mayor Pelzman. "With the arrival of warm weather, we have received increasing complaints from residents about ATVs. Our police department has been instructed to be on the lookout and to issue summonses for their illegal use."

Those who operate ATVs and unregistered motorcycles (dirt bikes) on public streets and public right of ways face up to a $500.00 fine and the towing of their vehicles.

The Woodbridge Township Police Department requests that residents call the Traffic Enforcement Unit at 732-634-7700, extension 2852, to report names and addresses of any known ATV owners and operators. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

"We're asking the public to be our eyes and ears when it comes to illegal ATVs," says Mayor Pelzman. "By doing so, they'll help keep dangerous vehicles off our streets."
