Woodbridge - Mayor John E. The 2007 Arbor Day dogwood tree was generously donated by the Rising Up Garden Center.
Mayor McCormac and Councilwoman Osborne also announced that Woodbridge Township has been named a “ Tree City USA” community by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the 14 th consecutive year. The “ Tree City USA” program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
“We are very pleased that Woodbridge Township continues to be recognized for placing emphasis on protecting the environment and preserving as much of our natural resources as possible,” Mayor McCormac said.
According to the National Arbor Day Foundation, Woodbridge has attained the four standards to earn the “Tree City USA” designation: a tree board or department, a comprehensive community forestry program, a tree care ordinance and an Arbor Day observance.
“We are especially proud that this is our 14 th consecutive year as a “ Tree City USA” community,” Councilwoman Osborne said. “The trees we plant today not only beautify our community, but serve as a living symbol of our commitment to keeping Woodbridge green.”
Mayor McCormac and Councilwoman Osborne applauded the efforts of the Woodbridge Environmental Commission, whose efforts have resulted in the mapping of the Township’s environmental resources and in furthering environmental initiatives such as the use of energy efficient light bulbs.
