Mayor Urges Awareness, Prevention to Combat Chief Killer of Women
On February 4 Woodbridge Township employees will spice up their work wardrobe with a dash of denim and scarlet to support the American Heart Association’s“Wear Red Day”.
The annual dress-down is celebrated in offices across the nation to increase awareness of heart disease, the No. 1 killer of American women. Employees donate $5 to the American Heart Association to “purchase” permission to casualize the office dress code for a day. Money raised goes toward research and education to reduce the incidence of heart disease in women.
This year’s Wear Red Day is a component of Go Red For Women, the AHA’s national campaign to raise awareness of heart disease in women and to encourage women to take a more proactive approach to their health. National sponsors include Macy’s and Pfizer.
“We are pleased to support Wear Red Day, because for many Township employees, the subject of heart disease is personal,” says Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. “Wear Red Day is an opportunity for everyone, male and female, to remember friends and family members who have suffered from the disease. It’s also a time to think about their own hearts and becoming more informed about their own health.”
For information on participating in Wear Red Day, contact the nearest American Heart Association office or call 1-888-MY-HEART.
