The Fabulous PARTY DOLLS!!!

August 25, 2004

WHERE: Woodbridge High School, Woodbridge, NJ

WHEN: 7:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 30 – Absolutely Free!

The best of the Girl Group Sound comes to Woodbridge August 30 as the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series presents The Party Dolls.

The free concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. on the grass fields behind Woodbridge High School. Sansone’s Route 1 Auto Mall is the prime series sponsor, with secondary sponsorship by ShopRite. Sponsor for the Party Dolls concert is Woodbridge Center Mall.

“We are thrilled to have the Party Dolls close out our summer concert series,” said Mayor Frank G. Pelzman. “This is a band that delivers a solid 90 minutes of classic rock ’n’ roll with some of the best musicianship in the business.”

Named after the #1, million-selling 1957 hit record Party Doll by Texas rockabilly legend Buddy Knox, the vocal trio of Alison Koster, Chrissy Sparks and Nicol Delli Santi perform the best dance/party songs of all time, with a repertoire extending from Doo-Wop and Motown through Disco and New Wave to current hits by Sheryl Crow, Shania Twain, Madonna and Britney Spears. This is a band that not only sings but delivers a mind-boggling fashion statement – several statements, in fact, over the course of the night, ranging from mini-skirts and go-go boots to hip huggers, bell bottoms, short-shorts and other pop clothing styles highlighted by an astonishing array of period wigs that send the audience on a time-travel journey down Music Memory Lane.

Formed in 1990 as a tribute to the 1960s’ Girl Groups, the Party Dolls have expanded into a first-rate touring ensemble that performs over 200 shows a year throughout the U.S. The main vocal trio is backed by a tight four-piece unit of bass, guitar, keyboards and drums with a stage repertoire of over 100 songs spanning 50 years of American Pop. The Party Dolls have recorded four CDs, including a highly regarded Christmas album done in their inimitable style.

Festivities begin with disc jockey Bruce Banko & Night Moves at 6 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. start for the concerts. Audience members are urged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, and refreshments are available in the food court.

The Mayor’s Summer Concert Series not only nourishes musical appetites but helps sustain the coffers at the Woodbridge Food Bank. Concertgoers are asked to bring non-perishable food items for deposit in special collection bins. “Summer months always put a strain on local food pantries,” says Mayor Pelzman. “Last year, the generous people of Woodbridge donated an incredible amount of food during the series.”
