Mayor's Health Expo Convenes Oct. 14 in Woodbridge

"Child Car Seat Safety Check" among special services offered

WOODBRIDGE - Cholesterol checks, eye and child lead screenings, foot exams, child car seat inspections and a plethora of vital healthcare information are just a few of the services being offered at this year's annual Mayor's Health Expo in Woodbridge.

Sponsored by the Woodbridge Township Department of Health and Human Services, the event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m.-noon at The Club at Woodbridge, 585 Main Street, Woodbridge. Free parking is provided in the Mack-Cali parking lot next door to The Club at Woodbridge.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for residents to do something positive for themselves by taking advantage of the many services at the Health Expo," says Interim Mayor Joseph F. Vitale.

Residents may walk in and receive, at no charge, tests for blood pressure, eye and foot exams and lung function. Free child car seat inspections will be offered by Woodbridge Township Police Department and Safe Kids Middlesex County Coalition.

There is a small fee and required pre-registration for total cholesterol checks, comprehensive blood screenings, Hepatitis B and C immunity tests and tests for thyroid function T-3 and T-4, C-reactive protein and THS (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone). To pre-register for any of these tests, call 732-855-0600 ext. 5026 or 5003 by October 12.

Visitors to the Mayor's Health Expo will find information on numerous health-related topics including Social Security, Medicare, pharmacy assistance, substance abuse, domestic violence and more.

Woodbridge Township Health Director Dennis Green says the tests available at the Expo would be much more costly at a doctor's office. "This is a chance for residents to obtain important health screenings either for free or at a significantly lower cost," says Mr. Green.

The Health and Human Services Department also offers other tests during the next few weeks, including by-appointment-only exams for osteoporosis, hearing and PAP screening. Call 732-855-0600 ext. 5011 for times and dates.
