A new vessel dedicated to Homeland Security patrol duties along the Arthur Kill and Raritan River will be christened Thursday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m., Interim MayorJoseph F. Vitale has announced.

The 27-foot vessel will be christened at its docking point, the Harbor Town Marina in Perth Amboy Boat Basin, Perth Amboy.

The vessel was purchased by Woodbridge Township, Carteret and Perth Amboy at a cost of $350,000 using funds from a U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant. The three municipalities will share costs and staffing of the vessel, which is equipped with state-of-the-art radar technology.

“We appreciate the federal commitment toward helping us upgrade our public safety equipment readiness,” says Mayor Vitale. “Grants of this kind greatly benefit our residents by making sure our police have the best response technology available and that includes on sea as well as on land.”
