| Woodbridge Supports State Resolution for 9/11 Volunteerism Week |
Mayor Urges Citizens to Participate in Meaningful Community Activities
The resolution was sponsored by District 34 Assemblyman Peter C. Eagler (D-Essex/Passaic) and “urges all counties and municipalities to adopt policies and procedures which encourage the public to participate in volunteer activities during the week of September 11 through September 17 of 2004.”
Mayor Pelzman agrees. “Volunteer activities that foster the spirit of generosity and selflessness are a fitting tribute to the heroes of 9/11 – ordinary people who performed extraordinary feats of bravery and humanity in the midst of unthinkable horror,” he said.
The resolution spotlights the high level of community volunteerism already occurring year-round throughout Woodbridge Township, notes Council President Rick Dalina. “It helps people see that their efforts have a higher purpose even beyond the immediate objective,” he says.
Woodbridge Township lost nine people in the September 11 attacks. In 2002 the Township 9/11 Memorial Committee constructed a permanent memorial in front of Town Hall to honor their memory.
“We hope this special week of volunteerism will become an annual feature of 9/11 commemorations across America,” says Mayor Pelzman.
