Woodbridge Receives $500K County Grant for Parks, Historic Preservation

Woodbridge Township will receive a $500,000 grant from the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders for park and playground upgrades and improvements to the historic Barron Arts Center , Mayor Frank G. Pelzman has announced .

The funding comes from the Open Space, Recreation and Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund used to develop and maintain recreational facilities throughout Middlesex County.

“My thanks to the Freeholders for choosing these civic projects,” said the Mayor. “This grant will greatly enhance the recreation experience for Woodbridge residents as well as help preserve one of our primary historic structures.”

Tthe Barron Arts Center, built in 1877 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, will receive $175,000, said Mayor Pelzman. Rahway Avenue Park will be allotted $165,000 for upgrades, and $160,000 will be put toward making fall zones on Township playgrounds ADA-compliant.

“We are pleased to make this grant to Woodbridge,” says Middlesex County Freeholder Director David B. Crabiel. “The Barron Arts Center in particular is an important cultural attraction.”

Middlesex County Freeholder Deputy Director Stephen “Pete” Dalina agrees. “This will definitely be a plus for the people of Woodbridge,” he said. “We are happy to see Open Space dollars used for projects that have a wide-ranging impact on the entire Township.”
